Job overview

Ysbyty Ystrad Fawr is the Local General Hospital situated in the Caerphilly borough.  It offers a range of inpatient and outpatient services.  The Acute Medical Unit (AMU) at Ysbyty Ystrad Fawr provides rapid, definitive assessment, investigation and treatment for patients admitted as an emergency via their GP or by ambulance who present with an acute medical complaint.

It is a busy fast paced environment that offers the opportunity to work closely with the medical team and other professions.  Opportunities for learning are vast and will be fully supported. 

Safe and timely triage of patients is essential, and support will be offered to develop the assessment skills required to undertake this.

We pride ourselves in having a high discharge to home rate and this is helped by our close relationship with our care at home colleagues.  You will be required to facilitate the safe discharge of patients through robust discharge planning and working alongside members of the multi-disciplinary team to achieve this.

  • Patient assessment, carrying out risk assessments
  • Planning care and treatment 
  • Providing safe and timely treatment and interventions
  • Complex discharge planning
  • Communicating with family/relatives
  • Effective transfer of patients to other wards/hospitals
