Job overview
The Suffolk Wellbeing Service is part of the national accredited IAPT initiative. The aim of this is to increase mental health access to those living in Suffolk aged 16 and above who are experiencing mild to moderate levels of anxiety and depression. The service works in conjunction with Norfolk and Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust (NSFT) by providing low and high intensity mental health care to the local population.
Suffolk Wellbeing are pleased to be able to offer an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join our team as a Senior Peer Mentor Band 4 working alongside our Band 3 Peer Mentors.
The posts will be based in either Ipswich or Bury St Edmunds, but travel will be required as part of the role to work across Suffolk This is a full-time post. Working hours are between 8am and 8pm and could involve some weekend work.
Main duties of the job

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

This role requires you to be a highly competent and dedicated individual who demonstrates both compassion and empathy to the individuals we support it is desirable to have an understanding/awareness of mental ill health (e.g. support worker), or a relevant qualification (level 3 Health & Social Care) or relevant experience.
You will manage and support a team of Peer Mentors as well as carry a caseload of your own. Good leadership qualities are required including compassion and understand when managing a team whose role includes sharing their own lived experience of mental health. You will be responsible for Case Management Supervision as well as individual supervision.
More specifically, successful applicants will need to possess and demonstrate a high level of skill in the following areas:
- Ability to demonstrate resilience when working with individuals that are experiencing varying levels of emotional distress.
- Able to adapt to change.
- Ability to provide strong and supportive leadership
- Ability to recognise the needs of your team’s wellbeing
- Ability and confidence to deliver presentations in-house as well as in the community.
- Confident to deliver training to new members of the team
- A positive and solution-focused attitude.
- Good administration and IT skills.
- Excellent time management and organisational skills relating to the number of client contacts offered and clinical sessions carried out each week.

We are seeking an individual with the knowledge and skills to work as part of a team and be innovative in their approach. You will need to be flexible and have the ability to cope in a highly demanding role and demonstrate a high level of organisational skill.
You will work under the direction of and be managed by the Community Service Manager.

QUALIFICATIONS
Essential criteria
- PSW training course or an equivalent PSW training programme
- Foundation Degree in Health and Social Care / Mental Health
Desirable criteria
- Level 3 Diploma in Health & Social Care or equivalent qualification/ experience.
EXPERIENCE
Essential criteria
- Personal lived experience of mental health difficulties and personal recovery OR Carer (indirect) lived experience supporting someone through their recovery.
- Significant experience of working with people with severe and enduring mental health problems – minimum two years.
Desirable criteria
- Experience of receiving care under Mental Health Services

The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
