Job overview

We have an exciting opportunity for a fixed term 0.5WTE Band 6 Physiotherapist to join our Older Persons Team on Laurel Ward at Carlton Court in Lowestoft. This is initially a six-month post to cover long term sickness absence.  

Within this role you will be working using a person-centred approach alongside the MDT, including Occupational Therapy and Nursing staff. You will assess, as well as develop and plan, specialist treatment for service users with dementia and physical health care needs.  You will be required to carry out moving and handling assessments with service users.

Being ward-based you will be able to work independently and will also have the opportunity to link in with colleagues working in Older Person's services in Norwich for peer support, as well as the newly expanded AHP Leadership team. 

 (HCPC registration and CSP membership is essential).

Main duties of the job

Within our service you will work with inpatients who have a diagnosis of dementia. You will use your physical health training alongside the ability to communicate and engage with older people living with complex mental and physical health needs.                            

  • Providing specialist advice 
  • Practice assessor for Physiotherapy students
  • Maintaining service users' safety, comfort and well-being                
  • Completion of moving and handling assessments, falls, balance, neurological, MSK and respiratory assessments 
  • Delivering 1:1 and group treatment/exercise programs as needed
  • Use of community equipment provision systems (TCES equip) to facilitate transition of care during service users' discharge
  • Completion of home visits and visiting care homes as needed for discharge planning.
  • Working closely with the MDT to provide high quality care for service users.

You will be expected to engage with and support relevant workstreams in relation to the Older Persons' AHP Clinical Networks.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • MSC/BSC/Diploma in Physiotherapy
  • HCPC and CSP membership
Desirable criteria
  • Background training Courses in Mental Health for Physiotherapists.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Broad based experience including Older persons
  • Experience in delivering exercise programs and groups
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge and experience of using Community equipment provision systems (ICES or Medequip)
  • Experience with Older persons, Mental Health and/or Community

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Reasonable confidence and competence in using IT systems
Desirable criteria
  • Manual Handling experience of complex problem solving associated

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Clinical knowledge and experience of physiotherapy for Older persons.
Desirable criteria
  • An understanding of the policies & guidelines both local & national that can affect older people
