Job overview

This is an exciting opportunity for a telecommunications/telephony specialist to join the trust in this role. It is an opportunity to lead and drive the telecommunications strategy of the trust.

This role is central to the delivery and continuity of Information Technology Telephony services across the Trust.

This role will manage the overall technical design for the Trust’s telecommunications strategy, with the ability to present and demonstrate the Trusts telecommunication Infrastructure and strategy.

Manage an overview of all Trusts telecommunication technology requirements and agree standards for the approval of the functional specification documents to ensure consistency and compatibility with the strategic vision.

Manage the overall telecommunication technical design for the Trust’s telecommunication infrastructure, including documentation of all telecommunication infrastructure.

The Telecommunication Specialist needs to fully understand the technology vision, objectives, deliverables and organisational goals. This role is key to defining the strategy of the Trusts telecommunication technologies strategy with current and future industry standards.

Main duties of the job

Responsible for ensuring that the telecommunication technical design standards are managed across the whole Trust infrastructure and system development programmes.

Formulate and review system development methodology and standards to ensure a common approach and consistent standard for all IM&T programmes of work.

Manage an overview of all Trusts telecommunication technology requirements and agree standards for the approval of the functional specification documents to ensure consistency and compatibility with the strategic vision.

Manage the overall telecommunication technical design for the Trust’s telecommunication infrastructure, including documentation of all telecommunication infrastructure.

Approve, in consultation with the Head of Digital Delivery, Head of Live Services and the Enterprise Architect, the telecommunication architecture for the Trust.

Manage relationship with 3rd party telecommunication providers and hold Service Reviews in conjunction with the Head of Digital Delivery at regular intervals for all third parties providing telecommunication hosted services to the Trust.

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Avaya Certified Implementation Specialist
  • Cisco Certified network professional
  • Degree, other tertiary qualification or evidence of relevant on-job qualification/equivalent hands on experience (3 yrs).
  • ITIL Foundation level 3 certification
Desirable criteria
  • Mitel IP office qualifications
  • Recognised qualification in the field of IT, computing, Business Systems or similar. For example, MCSE.
  • ITIL Level 4 certification

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of IP telephony platforms to include Avaya IP office, Mitel & Cisco platforms
  • 3 years hands on experience with Network Infrastructure and IP phone design solutions
  • Proven record in applying Network Technologies and configuration skills and Responsibilities in an NHS organisation, including evidence of input into projects that impact the wider Trust.
Desirable criteria
  • Recognised qualification in the field of IT, computing, Business Systems or similar. For example, MCSE.
  • At least one of the following qualifications/courses: Cisco CCNA, CCNP + Network Technologies, Firewall Technologies

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experienced in being the technical specialist and used to having the responsibility and freedom to act in the Trust best interest.
  • Experience in delivering telephony solutions. To include IP Telephony
  • Experience of Avaya, Mitel and Cisco IP platforms at a strategic level
  • Experience of providing technical solutions at an organisational level
  • 3 years or more experience of working with Telephony providers. To include BT, Mitel, Daisy telecomms
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of all of the following: -  LAN, WAN, Wireless technologies  Computer Aided Dispatch systems  The CAD associated interfaces.  Telephony Systems including analogue, digital and VoIP services.  Windows Server and workstation operating systems.  Exchange Server.  Firewall technologies  Active directory
  • Substantial experience across a wide range of IT technologies.
  • Ability to generate and analyse business cases and budgets in relation to Trust needs and priorities
  • Experience in an Technical architect role
