To provide technical support to the Ophthalmology Service.To assess visual acuity.

To independently perform accurate imaging of the eye using various imaging modalities as outlined in the service specification.

To independently perform accurate visual field assessments using the Humphrey Visual Field Analyser on a range of patients referred from the Ophthalmology Service.

To undertake retinal photography using various imaging devices.To undertake appropriate visual field tests, taking into consideration the patient's age, visual acuity, mobility, and ability to participate.

To select appropriate imaging modalities for each patient depending on their ocular condition to ensure appropriate testing is carried out and clinic flow is optimised.To undertake intraocular pressure measurements using ORA.

To adjust variables to ensure optimum performance for each patient.To measure a patient's refractive error using a Kowa autorefractor.To accurately measure patients' spectacles using a lens meter.

To use knowledge and experience to identify when a patient is unable to comply with an assessment and take appropriate action, including escalation to clinical staff where necessary.

To communicate effectively with patients in a kind, compassionate, and understanding manner to ensure the best possible test results and patient experience.

To liaise effectively with multidisciplinary team members to ensure a high-quality patient experience and efficient use of resources.

To use knowledge of ocular anatomy, physiology, and pathology to help identify abnormalities and adapt testing procedures where appropriate.

To ensure all test results and images are correctly saved and recorded for clinical review.

To support and contribute to the effective delivery and running of virtual clinics by ensuring all required imaging and diagnostic investigations are completed, available for review, and meet quality standards.

To assist in the organisation and smooth running of virtual clinic pathways, ensuring patients receive timely investigations and follow-up in accordance with departmental protocols.

To assist with the delivery of intravitreal injection clinics, ensuring patients are prepared appropriately and supporting the smooth and efficient running of the service.

To support clinicians and nursing staff during injection clinics by preparing equipment, maintaining stock levels, and ensuring clinical areas are ready for use.

To assist in the day-to-day running of ophthalmology clinics and support effective patient flow throughout the department.

To prepare, clean, and maintain consulting rooms, treatment rooms, imaging areas, and injection theatres in accordance with Trust Infection Prevention and Control Policies and Procedures.

To ensure clinic rooms and injection theatres are cleaned, stocked, and prepared between patients and clinic sessions to maintain a safe clinical environment.

To work in accordance with Trust Infection Prevention and Control standards at all times and promote best practice within the clinical environment.

To promptly report any infection prevention and control concerns, environmental hazards, equipment faults, or health and safety issues to the appropriate manager.

To perform and demonstrate clinical tests and imaging procedures to other staff members for training and competency purposes when required.

To work independently within departmental guidelines and recognise when assistance or advice from senior colleagues is required.

To communicate professionally and courteously with patients, relatives, visitors, and colleagues at all times.

To manage a variable workload efficiently and adapt to changing service demands, priorities, and clinical pressures.

To assist with equipment calibration, routine quality assurance checks, and maintenance processes to ensure the safe and effective operation of imaging devices and associated equipment.

To keep the line manager informed of any equipment faults or issues affecting service delivery.

To maintain patient confidentiality and comply with all Trust policies, professional standards, information governance requirements, and departmental procedures.

To support service delivery across all Ophthalmology clinical areas and locations, adapting duties and responsibilities as required to meet operational needs.

To be flexible and work across all Ophthalmology services and clinic locations, including the Main Eye Clinic, Waveney Clinic, Beccles Clinic, Ward 8, injection theatres, and virtual clinic services, as required by service needs and at the direction of management.

To assist with administrative, clinical, and operational duties necessary for the effective running of the Ophthalmology Department and to undertake any other duties commensurate with the grade of the post as requested by the Line Manager or Ophthalmology Management Team.
