Job overview

A post has arisen for an experienced Nurse to join our small Anticoagulation Specialist team. It is an exciting opportunity for an independent nurse prescriber to join our nurse team working part time (33.5 hours per week). This role includes the requirement to work some weekends and bank holidays.

We value teamwork, mutual support and a friendly working environment. We are looking for an NMC registered independent prescriber with experience in anticoagulation therapy preferred but not essential as you will be supported with training and education.

*Consideration will be given to applicants who do not hold a non-medical prescriber qualification but have appropriate experience, this will be supported by an Annex 21 contract, with a view to complete the non-medical prescribing course*.

Main duties of the job

This is a key role carrying a level of responsibility along with a demanding workload and great opportunity. The successful candidate will:

  • Provide a Nurse Led Anticoagulation Service offering advice and  expertise within the area of anticoagulation.
  • To provide a prescribing and advisory service for all oral and parenteral anticoagulants for inpatients and outpatients.
  • To provide advice on all areas of anticoagulation therapy to colleagues and clients.
  • To provide advice on all areas of Thromboprophylaxis to colleagues within the Trust.

Education and Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • NMC registered
  • Degree or diploma in nursing
Desirable criteria
  • Management/team leading qualification
  • Holds independent nurse prescriber certificate

Experience and Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Relevant post registration experience
  • Experience in nurse led clinics
Desirable criteria
  • Experience in Anticoagulation dosing
  • Management experience and/or experience of leading a team

Skills and Abilities

Essential criteria
  • Broad knowledge base
  • Ability to demonstrate evidence of applying theory to practice
  • Ability to lead and work effectively within a team
  • Good interpersonal skills which engender effective working relationships with staff
