Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for dynamic and hard working support worker to join the Stoma colorectal team. The role will be working part time totalling 8.5hrs over 2 days- Monday and Wednesday. If you enjoy working in a busy and acute General Surgical environment this job will be of a personal interest to you.
The Stoma Department are a small team working alongside the larger Colorectal and General Surgery Departments.
Training will be provided with reference to any specific requirements within stoma care speciality.
Main duties of the job
To assist and support registered staff in the delivery of high quality, individualised, dignified and compassionate care to patients. To contribute to the effective running of the department by concentrating on tasks that directly support the needs of the patient and assist their journey, prioritising as required. To work under the supervision of a registered healthcare practitioner at all times, working within the parameters of their competence, communicating and documenting appropriately ensuring relevant information is communicated to other members of the multidisciplinary team in a professional and timely manner. The ability to work to a high standard at all times, influencing and role modelling patient centred care. Individuals must be willing to undertake the care certificate training programme. Bank Staff will have a maximum of 6 months to complete the care certificate and other staff will be expected to complete this within a maximum of 12 weeks.
The role requires the individual to recognise and adopt the National 6 C’s which are Care, Compassion, Communication, Commitment, Competence and Courage.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Four GCSEs grade D or above including maths and English or equivalent (e.g level 2 literacy and numeracy qualifications).
- Commitment to undertake the Level 2 Clinical Healthcare Support Apprenticeship and Care Certificate
Experience and Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Understanding of the importance of professional behaviour at all times
- Experienced with IT systems, including Microsoft Office
- Experience of working within a team
- Experience of caring for a patient with a stoma/changing stoma bags
- 12 months minimum experience of working in a health, social or residential care setting
- Demonstrate through previous experience the ability to escalate concerns
- Demonstrate through previous experience the ability to escalate concerns
Desirable criteria
- Completion of level three stoma care course
- Knowledge of ore-operative stoma siting
- Basic woundcare and knowledge of skin closure
Skills and Abilities
