Job overview

Provide an effective, comprehensive and confidential patient-centred clinical administration and secretarial service to the Trust in accordance with Departmental and Trust standards, policies and procedures.

It may be requested that cross-cover is provided within the pre-assessment administration team as and when required.

Main duties of the job

Working as part of the Perioperative Diabetes Team based at James Paget Hospital & part of the wider Preassessment Team. Offering the highest standards of customer care to patients and other service users, adhering to departmental guidelines, Standard Operating Procedures and the Trust’s Values and Behaviour & delivering a high quality, efficient and responsive administration service, in accordance with National Guidelines. This team supports patients with diabetes, to improve their diabetes around surgery in order to have a shorter stay in hospital and less post-op. complications.

Education and Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Typing qualifications to RSA II or equivalent experience
  • Good general standard of literacy and numeracy
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of medical terminology/AMSPAR qualification

Knowledge and Experience

Essential criteria
  • Previous digital/audio typing experience
  • Working knowledge and experience of using Microsoft Office packages, including Word, Outlook, Excel
  • Working knowledge and experience of using NHS systems
Desirable criteria
  • Secretarial experience in a clinical environment

Skills and Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines and maintain concentration in a pressurised working environment
  • Ability to input data accurately and efficiently
