Theatres Clinical Educator
Fixed Term (12 months maternity leave cover) - 37.5 hours
The Operating Theatre team are accepting applications for the position of Band 6 Clinical Educator to cover maternity leave.
We have an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated individual to join our friendly and professional team. The primary purpose of the role is to promote best practice at all times, providing support and leadership to theatre, recovery staff and learners. Candidates should have exposure and a detailed understanding of the theatre and recovery environment.
Main duties of the job
- Co-ordinate teaching programmes within the department.
- Provide teaching in both the clinical setting and the classroom.
- Record competences.
- Respond to educational requirements that emerge from service needs.
- Policy development.
- Be involved in Practice Development projects
- Attend various appropriate meetings to represent Trust.
- To maintain a high profile within the clinical area acting as a role model positively influencing practice at all times and challenging poor practices.
- Ensure standards, policies and protocols are applied to practice.

Education and qualifications
Essential criteria
- Experience including an Acute environment.
- Experience of teaching and supporting leading on new developments
Desirable criteria
- Functioned at Band 6 with line manager responsibility
- Previous exposure to developing training and education programmes
Experience and knowledge
Essential criteria
- Registered Nurse Degree
- Preparation for mentorship/teaching and assessing courses or equivalent.
- Teaching experience

- Simulation teaching
- Teaching qualifications

Skills, abilities and competencies
Essential criteria
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Good interpersonal and influencing skills
- Skilled at managing own time and workload.
- Prioritising accordingly.
- Understanding of best practice in Cannulation, Venepuncture and Infection Control.
- Ability to assess plan, implement and evaluate care commensurate with the expert clinician.
- Excellent knowledge of multi – professional roles and a vision for delivery of patient care in different ways.
- Competent in a variety of expanded roles.

- Aware of new roles and developments such as Nursing Associates
- Computer Literate
