Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our busy team as a Decontamination Services Porter; helping to provide a comprehensive decontamination service to the Trust.

The full time post will involve distribution of decontaminated and used medical equipment throughout the hospital, as well as delivering equipment to defined schedules.

Main duties of the job

The job includes operating electrical moving aids and tugs around site. No previous experience is required, although it may be beneficial, as full training will be provided.

There is a requirement for moving heavy trolleys and the manual handling of heavy loads, for which training will be given.

Hours of work are 37.5 hours per week, between 06:00 and 23:00 Monday to Sunday. Weekend working will be required on a rotational basis.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Main Responsibilities of Post:

  • To provide effective and efficient collection and distribution service for surgical theatre equipment, flexible endoscopes and other reusable devices for use in direct patient care.
  • To provide support to decontamination staff by ensuring that materials for decontamination are; readily available in all work areas, storage facilities are kept well stocked, materials are received, stored correctly and maintained in a clean and tidy condition.
  • The Decontamination Department is responsible for providing comprehensive decontamination services to the Trust.
