Job overview

To expand the consultant workforce in medicine, we are looking to appoint Geriatricians to manage both our Geriatric inpatient ward as well as develop our front door multidisciplinary frailty service. We would welcome subspecialty interests in Parkinson’s Disease, Community Geriatrics, Acute Frailty or Ortho-Geriatrics.

We would also welcome candidates who wish to work across two specialities e.g. Geriatrics and Stroke Medicine. The successful candidate will work alongside our current consultants and build on the progress we have made within this specialty over the past two years.

We have a highly motivated, friendly multidisciplinary team in Geriatric Medicine who have established a fit-for-purpose frailty and geriatric service at this trust. We now want to build and expand on this success by assessing and managing more frail patients at the front door, thus improving patient outcomes.

Main duties of the job

  1. Contribute to development of the Care of the elderly service
  2. Provide with the other Consultants a system of mutual out-of-hours cover for General Internal Medicine and cover for annual, study and professional leave.
  3. Provide a consultation and advisory service to medical colleagues in other specialities in the Trust.
  4. Liaise with medical staff in other specialities and participate in the regular clinical meetings and other post-graduate activities of the hospital.
