Job overview
To work as part of a multi professional team, ensuring that patients with Glaucoma and age related macular degeneration (AMD) receive the highest standards of care, inclusive of assessment, diagnosis and referral for appropriate treatment from the time of diagnosis.
To provide clinical leadership and expertise in a speciality by providing information, support, advice and specialist knowledge to patients, their families and carers, and to act as a resource to the multi-professional team and to undertake intra-vitreal injections for patients undergoing anti-VEGf treatments at both at JPUH and Beccles hospital.
Main duties of the job
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 7 Ophthalmic Nurse Specialist to join our busy Ophthalmic department.
As an experienced NMC Registered General Nurse with experience in Ophthalmic Nursing who is caring, committed and compassionate , you will be competent to work autonomously in AMD and Glaucoma clinics and will be required to undertake intravitreal injections lists at both JPUH and Beccles hospital.
You must be able to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team to develop services and improve the quality of care delivered as well as acting as a role model, providing highly specialised clinical knowledge.
In this role you will be expected to act as the clinical expert and professional resource to the multidisciplinary team, patients and carers.
You should posses excellent communication and decision making skills with evidence of ongoing professional development .You will be responsible for carrying out clinical ophthalmic practice, requiring you to deliver highly specialised nursing skills. Education and Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Registered Nurse/ Degree or working towards/Mentorship
Desirable criteria
- Post registration qualification relevant to specialism/Management Qualification/
- Ophthamology Qualification
Experience and Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Experience of mentoring and supervision/Experience Change management/Ability to lead/IT skills/Ability to write and update policies
Desirable criteria
- Five years post-registration experience at least two years/3 years ophthalmology experience/ Evidence of advanced clinical skills relevant to the role
- Experience of managing own case loads/clinics
Skills and Abilities
Essential criteria
- Leadership skills/Effective communicator/highly motivated/flexible
Desirable criteria
- Ability to lead/implement change.
- Experience in undertaking intra-vitreal injections
