Job overview
To support the work of the Rheumatology team to provide clinical support and expertise to Rheumatology patients.
To provide a high standard of nursing care and to develop existing specialist Rheumatology knowledge and skills.
To act as a Rheumatology nursing source giving advice and psychological support to patients, carers and healthcare professionals.
To review nursing practice and support the implementation of appropriate changes based on research/best practice.
To assist with the development and implementation of audit, quality and Risk Management initiatives.
Main duties of the job
To co-ordinate a clinical workload in liaison with the appropriate medical physician and departmental manager.
To ensure that agreed standards of nursing practice are maintained.
To administer intravenous and intramuscular therapies of Rheumatology patients, under the direction of the Consultant Rheumatologist.
To perform assessment of Rheumatology patients, before and during treatment.
To perform ongoing monitoring of Rheumatology patients, under the direction of the Consultant Rheumatologist.
Actively support/enhance good communication between members of the multi-disciplinary team, the patient and their carers.
To maintain accurate patient records.
To actively participate in the collation of data for research and audit purposes.

Education and Qualfications
Essential criteria
- NMC registered Adult Nurse
- Diploma or Degree, working towards/relevant experience
Desirable criteria
- Experience of working within a day care infusion service
- Acute hospital experience
- Supervisor/mentorship qualification
- Advanced communication qualfication
Knowledge and Experience
Essential criteria
- Previous experience in working within an acute healthcare setting
- Leadership Skills
- Broad clinical knowledge
Desirable criteria
- Knowledge in Rheumatology conditions
- Understanding of research within the Rheumatology field
Skills and Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to manage a busy workload
- Working with Rheumatolgy patients and clinical knowledge of their conditions
- Intravenous administration competent
Desirable criteria
- Chemotherapy trained
