Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Nurse led Specialist Respiratory team at the James Paget University Hospital for 2 x Band 3 (37.5 hours per week) Stop Smoking Advisor's to be part of the multidisciplinary team, caring for patients with tobacco dependence.

This is to support the implementation of the NHS long term plan for treating tobacco dependency within the acute trust.

Main duties of the job

The Stop Smoking Cessation Advisor will be responsible for providing support to adult patients who are admitted to James Paget University hospital to help them stop smoking.

The role requires to undertake individual patient assessments and provide evidence-based advice and support to patients within recommended protocol and guidelines. An onward referral to the appropriate community smoking cessation service for follow up will be required.

Education and qualifications

Essential criteria
  • GCSE Grade D or equivalent level of qualification in English and Mathematics
  • NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Care or equivalent
  • Evidence of recent learning or development in health
Desirable criteria
  • Excellent communication and IT skills

Skills, abilities and competencies

Essential criteria
  • Experience of providing direct patient care
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to interact appropriately with patients, relatives, team members and other staff groups

Experience and knowledge
