Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen to be part of the Theatre Stores team.

Your main role will be to ensure the Theatre Stores department is adequately stocked in all areas, thereby facilitating the smooth running of theatres ensuring the delivery of excellent patient care. You will work closely with the entire stores team within the department to maintain stock levels, by performing stock reads and ordering appropriately as needed.    You will need to supervise the team in the absence of the Theatre stores manager.

 

Main duties of the job

To ensure the department is adequately stocked in all areas thereby facilitating its smooth running and excellent patient care.  You will work closely with the entire stores team within the department to maintain stock levels, by performing stock reads and ordering appropriately. 

The role will involve physical activities, such as manual handling, as well as an ability to use bar code readers and computers.  Full training will be provided for these activities. 

As an essential part of the Senior Stores Assistant is the ability to communicate with a wide range of people within the Trust. 

To lead the Stores Team to liaise with HSDU staff and theatre teams to ensure that the required sterile instrument trays and supplementary items are available for use in the theatre session at the required time.  To ensure a good line of communication is maintained with HSDU at all times with regards to urgent items, next day sets and instruments, out of action, awaiting repair and expected dates of return to service.

Essential criteria
  • Numerate and literate equivalent to GCSE Grade D and above in English and Maths
Desirable criteria
  • IT qualification

Knowledge & Experience

  • Background knowledge of NHS Stores
  • Previous experience within a similar environment

  • Computerised Stock Management

Skills & Knowledge

  • Good verbal communication skills
  • Must be physically fit and able to undertake manual handling aspects of the role
