Job overview
The post holder will lead and develop the medicines management technician service across our Suffolk localities. They will work closely with pharmacists, nursing, and medical staff to optimise the safe, effective, and efficient use of medicines for service users. This includes taking a lead role in medicines reconciliation, medication supply processes, and supporting clinical governance activities such as audits and training.
The post holder will be responsible for line-managing and supervising pharmacy technicians and assistants within the team, ensuring high standards of practice and compliance with relevant policies and legislation.
Main duties of the job
This post is based within our East and West Suffolk localities and will ideally be based in Ipswich although Bury St Edmunds will also be considered. The post holder would be expected to visit all sites within both localities on a regular basis.
The main duties of the job include:
- Lead the delivery and development of the medicines optimisation technician service within designated clinical areas.
- Support service users with medicines education and adherence, promoting a recovery-focused approach. Assist in the safe discharge of patients and to liaise with healthcare professionals in primary care settings utilising the Discharge Medicine Service (DMS) referrals.
- Provide day-to-day line management and supervision to pharmacy technicians and assistants within the team
- Deliver training and support to nursing, pharmacy, and other healthcare staff on medicines management best practice.
- Contribute to the induction and ongoing training of pharmacy staff.
- Support the Lead and Principal Pharmacists in delivering continuous improvement and efficiency within the clinical service by managing projects and/or areas of responsibility and being responsible for achieving defined outcomes

Essential criteria
- Registration as a Pharmacy Technician with GPhC
- Relevant postqualification education/training (e.g., Accuracy Checking Technician, Medicines Management, Leadership courses)
Desirable criteria
- Medicines Management/ Optimisation Technician Qualification
- Leadership Qualification (or willing to work towards)
Experience
Essential criteria
- Significant post qualification experience as a pharmacy technician, including in a clinical setting
- Experience supervising or managing staff and managing rotas
- Experience working within a multidisciplinary team
- Experience in delivering medicines management or optimisation services
Desirable criteria
- Experience of supporting training and education of others
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Awareness of governance, risk management, and incident reporting procedures
