Job overview
We’re seeking a Principal Clinical Psychologist to join our East Young Adult Mental Health team (working with 18-25 year olds) within the Suffolk CFYP service.

Within Suffolk CFYP, we recognise the unique developmental needs of young adults within the 18 – 25 year old age range. We are dedicated to providing a service which is developmentally appropriate, and formulation-driven. We are particularly proud of our co-produced Complex Emotional Needs / Personality Disorder pathway, and the recent introduction of full program DBT across East and West Suffolk YAMHS teams.
Main duties of the job
The role of the 8B Principal Clinical Psychologists within our YAMHS teams is to provide senior clinical leadership within the specified team, with an expectation that 50% of time is spent involved in direct client work, and 50% of the time is spent on other activities, which may include:
- Providing consultation to indirectly support the delivery of treatment by others.
- Providing clinical supervision to experienced psychologists and other professionals.
- Progressing staff development in the team, informing and being informed by, wider strategy.
- Collaborative and shared leadership of the team with the Clinical Team Manager and Consultant Psychiatrist.
- Establishing and leading on psychologically safe and informed environment for teams and staff through positive leadership values and behaviours, including: integrity, respect, compassion and curiosity.
- Providing a key role in team containment, working with professional systems, having difficult conversations, managing team emotions, thinking clinically and systemically simultaneously.
- Running, contributing to or supporting service development projects in liaison with the Consultant Psychologist or other staff from the Senior Leadership Team.
- Providing and contributing significantly to the psychological practice of the team with a focus on quality, efficacy and increasing improvement.
- Working alongside the Consultant Clinical Psychologists for YAMHS across Suffolk and Norfolk in developing clinical pathway intervention packages.

This post attracts a recruitment premium of £3000 for external staff only. This is a one off payment with half paid on appointment and half paid after the completion of a satisfactory probation period (6 months). The premium is taxable. Please note that should you leave employment, or choose to move to an alternative post within the Trust that does not attract this recruitment premium, you will be required to reimburse all or some it, as follows: 100% of the value of the premium in the first 12 months; 50% of the value of the premium in the period 12 months to 2 years following appointment.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Post graduate doctoral level training in clinical psychology, or it's equivalent, including eligibility for chartered status with the BPS
- Further post-qualification, post-graduate training in one or more specialised areas of psychological practice
- Registered as a Practitioner Psychologist with the Health Care Professions Council (HCPC)
Desirable criteria
- Evidence of CPD in one or more additional specialised areas of psychological practice
Experience
Essential criteria
- Specialist complex psychological assessment and treatment of people with a wide range of mental health problems, of varying severity and complexity
- Teaching, training and delivering clinical supervision
Desirable criteria
- Representing psychology within MDT setting(clinical and organisational contexts).
Skills
Essential criteria
- Assessment, evaluation and management of risk associated with mental ill health and related psychopathology
- Well developed skills in the ability to effectively communicate complex, highly technical and clinically highly sensitive information to clients, their families, carers and other professional colleagues both within and outside the NHS
Desirable criteria
- High level knowledge in the assessment and evaluation of psychological therapies
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Well developed knowledge of the theory and practice of specialised psychological therapies in difficult to treat groups (e.g. personality disorder, dual diagnosis, people with additional disabilities etc.)
- Providing consultation to other professional and non-professional groups
Desirable criteria
- Legislation and its implication for clinical practice and the appropriate management of people presenting with mental health problems
