Consultant Colorectal Surgeon
Consultant
Job overview
You will provide general and colorectal surgical services to the community served by the Queen Elizabeth Hospital NHS Trust and to play a key role, with colleagues, in further developing general surgical services. You will provide, alongside consultant colleagues, a service in general surgery involving in-patient and out-patient work and contribute to the on-call rota.
You will support the development of the General Surgery service. All staff support and ancillary facilities are in place. There will be office space for the post-holder with a dedicated computer and IT facilities and medical secretarial support.
Since December 2024, we have been performing Robotic colorectal cancer resectional services at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital using a state of the art robot, Versius, made by Cambridge Medical Robotics (CMR).
Currently only colorectal teams are performing surgery using this robot. However, our plan is to Introduce Urology by the end of this year and Gynaecology a few months after that.
We expect that the new consultant appointment in colorectal cancer resection surgery will have expertise and interest in Robotic Surgery and will help and facilitate building an even stronger team of Robotic
colorectal cancer resectional surgeons at QEH.
Main duties of the job
To provide a general surgical service including general surgical elective activity and 1 in 9 on call emergency cover for general surgery at QEH.
To provide elective colorectal surgical service.
Consultants are required to have continuing responsibility for the care of patients in their charge and for the proper funding of their departments.
Undertake administrative duties that arise from clinical responsibilities.
To provide an outpatients service for new referrals and for ongoing care.
Working for our organisation
There’s never been a more exciting time to join TeamQEH. We’re working on a once in a generation opportunity to build a new state-of-the-art hospital and we are also carrying out on one of the biggest pieces of digital transformation work we’ve ever undertaken.
Our new electronic patient record (EPR) will replace paper-based patient records from 2026 and will lead to better, safer, joined-up care at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital and beyond.
At The QEH we provide a comprehensive range of specialist, acute, obstetrics and community-based services to around 331,000 people across west and north Norfolk, North Cambs and South Lincs.
We are an ambitious organisation that upholds our values of kindness, wellness and fairness. We strive for continuous quality improvement, recently demonstrated in our 2024 CQC maternity inspection rating our services as ‘Good’, and we are proud to be a place to learn and grow through recognised learning and apprenticeships.
We recognise and reward our 4,000 staff and volunteers, priding ourselves on a community atmosphere and positive team spirit. We have approx. 530 beds across 33 wards and have newly built education and training facilities, a range of modern award-winning centres alongside a talented team of people ready to give you a warm welcome.
We love working here and think you will too.
