Consultant Obs & Gynae with interest in Urogynaecology

Consultant

Job overview

The post is based at Queen Elizabeth Hospital site with provision of out-reach clinics. To ensure the continued delivery of high-quality Obstetric and Gynaecological care to patients within the Trust and community, enthusiastic candidates with experience in general obstetrics and gynaecology and special interest in Urogynaecology are welcomed to join the existing team of consultants and complement the existing service provision in general gynaecology and obstetrics services.

A range of general and specialist obstetrics and gynaecological services are offered led by the consultants and supported by doctors, nurses, and midwives. These include urogynaecology, gynae-oncology, ambulatory (out-patient) gynaecology, early pregnancy assessment, colposcopy, high risk obstetrics and intrapartum care.

Main duties of the job

The appointed consultant would be expected to contribute to the ongoing service improvement programmes, Maternity Culture Transformation, and elective restoration pathway by implementing evidence based new ways of working when necessary.

The post holder will participate in providing dedicated emergency cover for Delivery Suite (labour ward) and emergency gynaecology separately in the daytime and will require to participate in the on-call rota overnight and weekends currently on a 1:10 rota with prospective cover (*subject to change*). The post involves on-call sessions on Labour Ward to achieve the desired 60 hours consultant presence recommended by RCOG. The post-holder is expected to deputise from time to time for absent colleagues as per the policy. The appointee will be required to participate in the day-to-day supervision, training, and assessment of junior medical and other staff. Shared Office space and secretarial support will be provided.

The appointee will be involved in the management of inpatients and outpatients at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital, King’s Lynn, community antenatal hubs and outpatients at the North Cambridgeshire Hospital, Wisbech.

Working for our organisation

There’s never been a more exciting time to join TeamQEH.  We’re working on a once in a generation opportunity to build a new state-of-the-art hospital and we are also carrying out on one of the biggest pieces of digital transformation work we’ve ever undertaken.

Our new electronic patient record (EPR) will replace paper-based patient records from 2026 and will lead to better, safer, joined-up care at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital and beyond.

At The QEH we provide a comprehensive range of specialist, acute, obstetrics and community-based services to around 331,000 people across west and north Norfolk, North Cambs and South Lincs.

We are an ambitious organisation that upholds our values of kindness, wellness and fairness. We strive for continuous quality improvement, recently demonstrated in our 2024 CQC maternity inspection rating our services as ‘Good’, and we are proud to be a place to learn and grow through recognised learning and apprenticeships.

We recognise and reward our 4,000 staff and volunteers, priding ourselves on a community atmosphere and positive team spirit.  We have approx. 530 beds across 33 wards and have newly built education and training facilities, a range of modern award-winning centres alongside a talented team of people ready to give you a warm welcome.

We love working here and think you will too.
