Norfolk Community Health & Care NHS Trust Temporary Worker Service (TWS) are looking for bank Clinical Support Workers to join our well established teams in an in patient settings.

Main duties of the job
Experience of working in a healthcare setting is essential. To be motivated, enthusiastic, possess good communication skills, and organised with a positive and flexible attitude to work. You would be expected to work as part of a team and would support qualified nursing staff to care for patients. Ideally you will have caring experience and be able to adapt to changing working practices.
- To accurately and promptly carry out the instructions of the Registered Nurse (RN) who is professionally accountable for the delivery of care.
- To carry out duties as specified within the trust’s Approved Core Task List (page 5) for Clinical Support Worker (working within assessed competence)
- To report to registered staff any patient that gives cause for concern or any observed changes in a patient’s clinical condition
- To support patient’s emotional well-being by supporting positive conversations, actively encouraging participation in ward-based activities
- To accurately document all care delivered to patients, including recording documentation electronically on trust systems maintaining confidentiality at all times
- To respond appropriately to clinical emergencies to ensure the patient receives appropriate care. Be aware of role in emergency situations and what actions should be undertaken
- To be aware of and adhere to all trust policies / procedures / nursing guidelines when undertaking any activities

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
- Assist with patient hygiene i.e., care of patients’ hair teeth, nails and general hygiene
- Assist patients in the management of continence and record accordingly
- May undertake all basic aspects of stoma care with exception of newly formed stomas. Any abnormalities must be reported to RN
- Record on the appropriate system all relevant patient bowel movement
- May undertake catheter care, change catheter bags and record urinary output, undertaking bladder scans (following trust training) reporting to Registered Nurse any abnormalities
- May take CSU from urinary catheter port under the direction of the Registered Nurse
- May remove urinary catheters following training under the direction of a Registered Nurse
- Assist by providing appropriate conditions for patient comfort e.g. fan, blankets, extra pillows - must report to Registered Nurse signs of physical distress
- Ensure on discharge, transfer or escorting patients that they have appropriate warm clothing, footwear with the patient consent
- Work with the patient on the posture care plan (including slings and splints) ensuring comfort is maintain, issues raised with registered nurse
- May assist with pressure area care and may decide on first line of treatment, e.g. use of heel pads and relevant documentation. This must be reported to Registered Nurse
- Help patients to prepare for meals and assist feeding individual patients when required
- Be aware of the patient IDDSI requirements and act accordingly, raising issues with the registered nurse
- May complete, food and fluid charts accurately with amount taken by patient
- May aspirate NG tube and complete an aspirate check recording amount
- May administer feed via enteral feedtube including RIG/PEG/JPEG. Prior to feed commencing Registered Nurse must check position of tube and check flow rate of feed (if NG)
- May undertake routine monitoring of blood pressure
- Must be able to identify normal and abnormal ranges reporting any abnormalities to the Registered Nurse
- May take manual record blood glucose, following Trust training programme. Any abnormal readings must be reported to the Registered Nurse
- May check and calibrate blood glucose meters
- All TPR observations can be taken and recorded
- Must be able to identify normal and abnormal ranges. Any abnormal readings must be reported to the RN
- May perform and record oxygen saturation levels. Any abnormal readings must be reported to the Registered Nurse
- Document early warning scores following completion of the recognised Trust training and competency assessment programme and record these scores on Symphony
- Report any abnormal score back immediately to the RN
- Undertake neurological observations following completion of the recognised Trust training and competency assessment programme
- Report any abnormal score back to the RN
- Provide basic tracheostomy care once assessed competent under direction of appropriate person + document as appropriate
- Remove nebuliser mask and apply/remove Airvo and other humidification equipment under direction from senior registered practitioner
- Escalate any changes to registered practitioner
- Replace disposable equipment
- Following attendance at an appropriate enhanced clinical skills study day and successful completion of competency assessment may perform 12-lead ECGs on patients under direction of the registered nurse
- Assist in preparation of patient/equipment for treatment, investigation or procedures as directed by RN
- May accompany a patient to other departments but MAY NOT receive a patient back from these
- Must adhere to Infection Control procedures
- Must be FIT tested and regular (2 years) for re-fitting
- Participate in the admission procedure with regards to recording basic personal details including Body Mapping. Routine observations must be recorded
- Record any care given on the trust electronic system
- May only apply NON-PRESCRIPTION topical creams on the specific direction of the Registered Nurse
