Job overview
Do you have empathy and passion to support women experiencing perinatal trauma and/or loss? Do you have experience of working within perinatal services or an interest in perinatal mental health and willingness to learn more about working within this field?
The Lotus Maternal Therapeutic Outreach Team are seeking to recruit a Fixed term (or secondment for applicable candidates) 8a Clinical Psychologist, for 12 months to complete our team. This is a fantastic opportunity to broaden your skills within a specialist area and develop your confidence in working with service users who have experienced psychological trauma or bereavement.
This opportunity has arisen to cover maternity leave however as part of the team you could be involved in the continued development and delivery of a specialist birth trauma and perinatal loss service.
The Lotus Maternal Therapeutic Outreach Service launched in June 2021, as a pilot site chosen to develop a Maternal Mental Health Service (MMHS) as part of the NHS Long Term Plan. We are now an established MMHS Service who often offer consultation and training for developing MMHS services and external agencies.
Main duties of the job
This exciting opportunity is available to be part of a developing a service. The successful candidate will be required to provide specialist psychological assessment, formulation, and treatment skills. EMDR and trauma-focussed CBT experience, whilst not essential, is desirable.
The Lotus service covers the whole of Norfolk and Waveney area and provides a link between maternity services and other services involved in mental health care for women, including the Perinatal Community Mental Health Team, Children’s Services and local community organisations. This will involve working with a range of professionals, services, and agencies.
The post holder will also receive further relevant training specific to the role and will be expected to offer clinical supervision to other members of our multi-disciplinary team.
We also have strong links with the UEA Doctorate in Clinical Psychology training programme and as such, there will be opportunities to supervise Trainee Clinical Psychologists whilst on placement within the team.
There will be an expectation to travel across the county and therefore being a car driver is essential.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Together with the wider perinatal service, the Lotus team was awarded ‘Team of the Year’ in the NSFT Staff Excellence Awards 2022. We are a small, dedicated team comprising of Clinical Psychologists, Peer Support Workers and Specialist Midwives, offering specialist assessment and psychological interventions to women and birthing people who have experienced mental health difficulties relating to their perinatal experience, including: birth trauma, fear of childbirth (Tokophobia), pregnancy loss or death of a baby, and separation from their baby due to Children’s Services involvement.
We are looking for a Clinical/Counselling Psychologist, who is highly experienced at working with individuals with complex or single event trauma and/or loss to join our supportive and passionate team.
Previous experience of working with this client group is desirable but not essential, as is training and experience in delivering either Trauma-focused CBT or EMDR.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Post-graduate degree (or its equivalent if trained prior to 1996) in clinical psychology, accredited by BPS
- Ongoing further specialist training/accredited short courses
- Supervisor training, to be a supervisor of doctoral programme clinical psychology trainees or willing to undertake training
- Registered as a practitioner psychologist with the Health Care Professions Council (HCPC)
Experience
Essential criteria
- Experience working as a qualified clinical psychologist (Band 7) and able to evidence appropriate knowledge and experience in practice to enable the post holder to clinically supervise trainee clinical psychologist
- Experience of working with a wide variety and severity of client groups & clinical problems, in various settings, including maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems.
- Experience of working with a range of complex and challenging behaviours and exercising full clinical responsibility for psychological treatment
- Experience of supervision and teaching.
