Job overview
We are looking for a Clinical Psychologist or Counselling Psychologist for the Therapeutic Interventions for Distressing and Unusual Experiences (TIDES) team. TIDES is a team for people who are at-risk of psychosis, and their family members and carers.
The TIDES team have a base in Norwich but also provide a service in Great Yarmouth and Waveney and King’s Lynn. The successful candidate will be based in Norwich, with travel to other areas as required. This post is funded at full-time, although part-time hours will be considered. Interested candidates are encouraged to discuss their preference prior to applying.
Soon to be qualified psychologists are encouraged to apply. For newly qualified candidates, there will be support to achieve individual aims and goals using the Trust preceptorship programme. Please note that those exiting training programmes will be placed on Band 7 whilst completing preceptorship and Band 8a will be awarded once this is complete.
Main duties of the job
The successful applicant will provide psychological assessment and treatment for people at-risk of psychosis and their families and carers. The post holder will form an integral part of the TIDES multi-disciplinary team. Job planning will be completed with the successful candidate to ensure that they are able to work safely and competently in accordance with professional guidelines and personal wellbeing.
There will be scope for candidates to access training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Psychosis and Bipolar (CBT PB) at University College London (UCL) as part of the NHS England national therapy training programme. In-house training and supervision for Behavioural Family Therapy (BFT) are also available.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The TIDES team is part of the Norfolk and Waveney Early Intervention in Psychosis (EIP) Service. The Norfolk and Waveney EIP Service has undergone significant expansion over the last eight years following funding from NHS England for the Access and Waiting Time Standard, including the development of the TIDES team. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work with other colleagues across the service, including psychologists and therapists.
The service also has links with the University of East Anglia (UEA) Doctoral Programme in Clinical Psychology and the Psychosis Interest Network East Anglia (PINE). The successful candidate will have opportunity to be involved in developing and leading on research and service evaluation projects.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Post-graduate degree (or its equivalent if trained prior to 1996) in clinical psychology, accredited by BPS
- Ongoing further specialist training/accredited short courses
- Supervisor training, to be a supervisor of doctoral programme clinical psychology trainees or willing to undertake training
- Registered as a practitioner psychologist with the Health Care Professions Council (HCPC)
Desirable criteria
- Evidence of CPD in one or more additional specialised areas of psychological practice
- Theory and practice of specialised psychological interventions (assessment and / or therapist)
Experience
Essential criteria
- Experience working as a qualified clinical psychologist (Band 7) and able to evidence appropriate knowledge and experience in practice to enable the post holder to clinically supervise trainee clinical psychologist
- Experience of working with a wide variety and severity of client groups & clinical problems, in various settings, including maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems
- Experience of working with a range of complex and challenging behaviours and exercising full clinical responsibility for psychological treatment
Skills
Essential criteria
- Skilled in the use of complex methods of psychological assessment, intervention and management
- Skills in consultation to professional and non - professional groups
- Skills in training and supervision. Skills in creating and delivering presentations and training programmes
- Skills in neuropsychological assessment
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Doctor level knowledge of research design and methodology, including complex multivariate data analysis
- Knowledge of mental health legislation within specialist clinical context
Other
Essential criteria
- Able to identify, provide and promote appropriate support strategies to carers and staff exposed to highly distressing situations and challenging behaviours
- Able to use multi-media materials for presentations in public, professional and academic settings
