Norfolk and Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust provides child and adult mental health services, learning disability, wellbeing, older people's and eating disorder services across Norfolk and Suffolk.

We are committed to equality, diversity and inclusion and want to reflect the diversity of our local communities within our teams.  We welcome applications from all talented individuals with the relevant qualifications, skills, knowledge and experience

Job overview

  • This role will be supported by a £12,000 relocation allowance
  • ‘Holiday of a lifetime scheme’: Consultants and SAS doctors can bank/accrue annual leave over a period of up to 5 years, to facilitate an extended period of leave. The scheme enables the opportunity for planning a ‘holiday of a lifetime’ or extended paid break

The Trust is seeking a specialty doctor to join a reopening Male Acute In-Patient Psychiatric Care Unit. As such, we are keen to appoint someone to the specialty doctor post who will form part of the newly formed clinical team being created. Whilst the predominant focus of the role is direct clinical provision we would like the post holder to contribute to service developments for the continual improvement of the care we offer.

This post is for a specialty doctor for a reopening male acute inpatient psychiatric care unit. The ward is based at Hellesdon Hospital in the city of Norwich. There are currently five wards at Hellesdon Hospital, which the reopening male acute inpatient ward would be an addition to. Four wards predominantly serve the demand from Central Norfolk and one ward, the PICU, is countywide.

Main duties of the job

·        The post holder will work with their consultant and management colleagues, service users and stakeholders in the planning, development and management of services

·        The post holder is expected to contribute to improving quality in the service and to work with the clinical team to achieve agreed performance targets

·        As is expected from the holder of a senior public position the post-holder must at all times comply fully with the Nolan Principles and the Standards of Business Conduct.

Discharge teaching, examination and accreditation duties as required. This might include contributing to postgraduate and continuing education for medical and multi-disciplinary professions.

Contribute to formal and informal teaching of medical students.

Support the training of junior medical staff
