Job overview

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a Specialist Midwife on a 9 month fixed term or secondment  contract to be involved in the continued development and delivery of a specialist birth trauma and perinatal loss service in Norfolk.

The Lotus Maternal Therapeutic Outreach Service (Lotus team) launched in June 2021 as a pilot site chosen to develop and trial a Maternal Mental Health Service (MMHS) as part of the NHS Long Term Plan.  Since this time we have become an established team and have continued to develop and improve the service for our local population.

As a service, the Lotus team aims to embody a trauma-informed care ethos and as such, the team includes Clinical Psychologists, Peer Support Workers and Specialist Midwives and offers specialist assessment and psychological interventions to women and birthing people who have experienced moderate to severe or complex mental health difficulties directly related to their birth experience.

The post will be to cover geographical areas of the West of Norfolk over to central Norfolk including Norwich.

If you’re an enthusiastic, person centred, registered Midwife we would love to hear from you!

Main duties of the job

The Specialist Midwife for Lotus Team will liaise with all professionals involved in the care of women experiencing trauma, bereavement or loss in the maternity and neonatal period, to ensure that they receive trauma informed care at each stage of their patient journey.

Loss includes both pregnancy loss at any gestation, still-birth, neo-natal death or not having residency with your child after birth due to involvement with children’s services. The specialist midwife will have a role in planning and co-ordinating their midwifery antenatal and extended post-natal care in partnership with the women’s named midwife, offering highly specialised advice.
