The Oral Health Improvement Practitioner is integrated in the 0-19 Healthy Child Service to deliver a range of evidence-based oral health improvement programmes across Cumberland as identified in NHS England and Improvement Oral Health Improvement Specification for Adults and Children, on behalf of Harrogate & District NHS Foundation Trust.
Develop and maintain effective working relationships with a range of front-line health, education, social care and voluntary agency staff to contribute to improving oral health and reducing inequalities in oral health. To provide specialist oral health advice, education and training in the specialist area, maintaining knowledge and skills in line with evidence-base. |
Main duties of the job
· Evidenced-based supervised tooth brushing programme for selected Early Years settings/ schools in Cumberland. This is an initiative aimed at reducing the prevalence of tooth decay by increasing exposure to fluoride for children
· Training programme – provides designated training for children’s residential care home staff, health professionals and staff working with children and babies.
· Provide oral health advice, training and resources in line with service specifications as required
· Responsible for ensuring the team has the appropriate stock levels to deliver a sustainable service.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Degree in Public Health
- Degree level or equivalent practical experience to deliver Dental Health Programmes
Desirable criteria
- Evidence of Oral Health CPD
- NEBDN Dental Nursing Certificate or equivalent
- Registered with the General Dental Council as a Dental Care Professional
- Additional post registration qualification in Oral Health, Radiography or Fluoride Varnish Application
Experience
Essential criteria
- Experience of inputting into Oral Health Projects
- Experience of inputting into database/spreadsheets recording systems
- Oral Health Experience
- General Knowledge and understanding of the NHS and how the service links in with other agencies
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Well developed interpersonal communication (written and oral), persuasive and facilitation skills.
- Ability to work with and deliver within a fixed project timescale
- Well developed workload management skills
- Analytical skills
- Demonstrates willingness and ability to challenge existing practice
