Job overview
This post provides Specialist Community Public Health Nursing leadership and operational management to designated clinical and non-clinical services and the staff, within the directorate and the performance management of these services.
The post will lead in ensuring the sustained delivery of key operational service targets and be responsible for reconciling operational targets and activity with the delivery of high-quality care in the area. Report performance against targets through the organisational performance management framework and support the Operational Director in carrying out their role, taking day to day responsibility for the delivery of the Directorate’s business plan and key targets.
Work with senior members of the Directorate to take delegated responsibility for monitoring and ensuring that agreed activity and access targets and specified quality standards are understood, met and, where necessary, delivery plans and action plans are adjusted to reflect the achievement of national and local targets.
Support the Directorates Associate Director of Nursing, Clinical Director and Operational Director working with local commissioners and other providers to ensure the Directorate’s future shape and strategic direction are in accordance with the planned provision for local health needs and in line with the Trust vision and objectives.
Main duties of the job
Applicants must be an experienced senior manager with a SCPHN registration.
They should be used to managing clinical services across a large geography and working with multiple systems and partners.
They will need to be to be accessible to staff working in Sunderland and Durham. We do support virtual working, but applicants will need to be able to work in bases three days a week to support visibility to staff.

The Children and Young Peoples Public Health Directorate at HDFT is the largest provider of Community Children's Service in the country. With over 1800 members of staff delivering services across North Yorkshire, North East, Northumberland, Wakefield and Cumbria. The directorate delivers a wide range of service within these areas including Health Visiting and School Nursing services in North Yorkshire, County Durham, Middlesbrough, Darlington, Stockton, Gateshead, Sunderland, Northumberland and Westmoreland and Furness, Cumberland and Wakefield.
The Directorate is led by a triumvirate consisting of a Divisional Clinical Director, Operational Director and Associate Director of Nursing who between them are accountable to the Trust Board for ensuring the service meets it’s contractual, quality, safety and financial objectives. This team work closely with the Deputy Director of Health Visiting and Safeguarding to ensure we continually review our serviced models to best meet the needs of the children and families we serve.
This post will join the Head of Public Health Nursing and Operations team within our 0-19(25) Services supporting a number of our contracts.
