Job overview

We have a temporary 12 month position in the Acute Paediatric and Neonatal team and are looking for a compassionate and people-centered Ward Clerk to join our fantastic teams across Woodlands and the Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU). The vacancy will be for a Monday - Friday role split between both our Paediatric and Neonatal units. 

Woodlands is a 16 bedding ward which accommodates children and young people from a wide range of specialties included but not limited to medical, surgical, and orthopedic. SCBU  is a 7 cot level one neonatal unit which supports families care for premature babies over 32 weeks gestation. 

We are looking for someone who can cope well within a rapidly changing environment, who can multi-task and who can handle the often challenging demands of a busy ward whilst retaining team spirit.

Main duties of the job

As the Ward Clerk on Delivery Suite you will be required to:

  • Maintain electronic records to ensure that patients are admitted and discharged in a timely manner.
  • Collect and prep medical records.
  • Answer the telephone and direct to the appropriate clinical member of staff to deal with queries.
  • Liaise with patients and visitors on the ward.
  • Report any estate or IT issues promptly to allow a fast resolution. 
  • Admit new born babies after caesarean sections, checking NHS number have been issued appropriately and pulled through to various systems. 
  • Liaise with the coordinator and have an awareness of forthcoming patients.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • 5 GCSE's or equivalent
  • Care Certificate or willingness to undertake Care Certificate and complete within 12 weeks
Desirable criteria
  • NVQ 2 or 3 in Health Care or equivalent qualification

Experience

  • Understanding the role of a Health Care Assistant
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Works well within a multi-disciplinary team
