Job overview

Are you organised, proactive and thrive when working in a busy environment? If so, this role is for you! We are looking for a hard working individual to join our team on Oakdale Ward in the role of Ward Clerk.

Oakdale Ward is a 30 bedded ward which provides care for patients with Endocrine, General Medical, Oncology, Haematology and Respiratory needs.

The successful candidate will need excellent communication skills and be able to prioritise your own workload which can vary regularly throughout a busy day.

We are willing to hear from anyone who has administration skills, is happy and able to work primarily on a computer and can display our Trust values in their day to day work.

This post is for 37.5 hours per week, working Monday to Friday.

Main duties of the job

The role of the Ward Clerk is extremely varied. Some of the key tasks include:

  • Being the first point of contact for patients, relatives and staff both face to face and on the telephone.
  • Supporting the clinical teams with admin duties to allow them to provide hands on patients care.
  • Updating and maintaining electronic inpatient records.
  • Booking follow up appointments for patients after discharge.
  • Be able to provide an efficient and effective administration service to the entire ward.

Person specification

Essential and desirable

Essential criteria
  • 3 GCSE’s or equivalent including English at Grade C or above
  • Evidence of continuing development.
  • Previous clerical / administration experience
  • Working with the general public.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Desirable criteria
  • Experience with IT System (PCS, WebV, Excel, Prism, Oracle, NHS Supply Chain)
