Job overview
The post holder will work as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the endoscopy unit.
The role includes assisting the endoscopist with a range of procedures performed in the endoscopy unit.
The post holder will admit and discharge patients before and after their procedures.
The post holder will support and care for patients both pre and post procedure, within the endoscopy setting.
The post holder will after training, have a thorough knowledge of how to prepare, care for and clean equipment including endoscopes within the department.
The post holder will be familiar with, and work to, the protocols and policies of the endoscopy department and Trust policies, paying particular attention to the Infection control policy.
The post holder will maintain safe storage and use of medicines.
The post holder will be required to provide a professional, efficient and comprehensive service within the department, fulfilling all the necessary tasks to facilitate and record patient procedures and care.
The post holder will require close liaison with other disciplines and the provision of a courteous, reliable and quality service to patients, relatives and carers, other healthcare professionals in both internal departments and outside organisations.
Main duties of the job
• Maintain treatment rooms by stocking up equipment and documentation as required
• Ensure equipment such as endoscopes are cleaned and decontaminated correctly, following training and guidance.
• Ensure that equipment is in working order and report faults accordingly.
• Be aware of own limitations and know when to seek advice.
• Follow policies and be involved in discussions about service improvement / proposed changes to such polices.
• Support and liaise with clinicians of all grades.
• Use resources efficiently and effectively.
• Maintain confidentiality and ensure secure systems are in place for the storage of data.
• Use a variety of communication tools to deal effectively with patients and colleagues throughout the trust.
• Deal with all enquires in a sympathetic and professional manner using tact and diplomacy.

• To maintain an awareness of the national, professional, and local quality issues relevant to the delivery of services e.g. Clinical Governance, Global Rating Scale (GRS) and Joint Advisory Group (JAG)

- NMC Registration (Completed OSCE and UK post registration experience)

- NMC Registration with 6 months Endoscopy experience
Desirable criteria
- Experience of day to day coordination of unit/ward in absence of a senior professional
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Demonstrates a good knowledge and understanding of endoscopic procedures and the rationales underpinning them
- Able to demonstrate current skill set and how these skills can be transferred into Endoscopy where required
Desirable criteria
- Understanding of GRS and JAG
