Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Hospital Infection Prevention and Control Team for a Clinical Support Worker (CSW). The Band 3 IPC CSW will undertake the role of working alongside IPC colleagues and other healthcare professionals promoting and developing IPC awareness to prevent healthcare associated infection (HCAI).
The role will include delivering education to small groups of staff in wards and departments, undertaking IPC audits, fit testing staff for FFP3 masks and ensuring IPC surveillance databases are up to date.
Main duties of the job
To work alongside staff, as directed by the IPC Team Lead, in the clinical setting to provide direct work based IPC education / teaching. Ensuring patient safety remains a key focus during the delivery of the support.
Provide support and advice in line with IPC Policies and guidance to clinical teams including CSW’s and non-registered staff.
To support the IPC Team to deliver education on IPC training events for CSWs and IPC Champions as well as assisting with national awareness campaigns e.g. World Hand Hygiene Day.
Provide short ‘tool box’ talks to CSWs and other non-registered staff in wards and departments.
To undertake IPC audits e.g. hand hygiene, environment audits in low risk departments as per the IPC audit plan directed by the Team Lead
Interrogation of surveillance databases e.g. the Trust’s Tendable system to identify themes and trends in IPC audits undertaken by the team.
Keeping the IPC tracker database for cases of Alert organisms up to date and identifying increases and trends in HCAI.

- NVQ/Diploma level 2, higher or equivalent
- Care Certificate
- Good IT skills, being proficient in the use of Microsoft Word and Excel
- Experience of assisting nursing staff in a clinical setting
Desirable criteria
- Qualification in computing
- Experience of producing excel spreadsheets and data entry
- Experience as a Clinical Care Support Worker
- Experience of delivering training / education to others
- Experience of working within the NHS
