Deputy Service Manager UEC

Job overview
The post holder will support the delivery of services within the Long Term, Urgent, Cancer & Community Directorate. They will work closely with Directorate, Care Group and Department leadership teams to support capacity and demand planning and managing compliance against national standards and local driver/watch metrics.
This role is specifically focussed on operational delivery of Urgent and Emergency Care (UEC) services.
Good communication skills and being able to work with all levels of staff are crucial, with the ability to remain calm under pressure to meet deadlines.
Reporting to the Service Manager the post-holder will work to operationally manage the delivery of service key to delivery of UEC with some flexibility to support Acute, Medical and cancer services as required.
Duties will include monitoring pathways in identified specialties, operational managing delays which impact on achievement of ED and hospital flow, engaging with clinical staff to ensure job plans are effective and activity is managed in a timely manner, reporting performance data at relevant forums and supporting the senior team to produce relevant reports and updates.

Main duties of the job
- Responsible for highlighting and addressing issues of concern, as appropriate
- Support development of appropriate reporting and develop robust Validation processes
- Provide training and communication in relation to capacity & demand modelling and performance against KPIs
- Support the Triumvirate to delivery their Care Group's Driver Metrics as part of the HDFT Impact quality improvement methodology
- Maintain Departmental governance processes in support of nursing and clinical leadership team(s)

The successful candidate's portfolio will focus on the operational management of Urgent and Emergency Care services so experience in the above is essential. Additionally, experience in management of medical staff is required.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Degree level qualification or equivalent experience
- Level 2 numeracy/literacy and IT literacy
- Hold (or working towards) Healthcare related leadership qualification at minimum of Level 5
Desirable criteria
- Project Management qualification
Experience
Essential criteria
- Robust understanding of performance targets in relation to UEC Constitutional standards
- Experience of working with quality improvement projects
- Experience of liaising with patients and families
- Highly proficient in medical staff management and rota management
Desirable criteria
- Previous NHS operational management experience
- Project or financial management
- Knowledge of service improvement techniques
- Previous relevant NHS experience in supervisory position
- Experience of complaints and concerns management
- In-depth understanding and experience in Urgent and Emergency Care operational management
Skills
Essential criteria
- Effective communication, influencing and negotiating skills
- Strong organisational skills and confident attitudes with ability to work under pressure
- IT literate – Excel, Powerpoint, Power BI etc
- Resilience and ability to deal with difficult situations
