Bereavement Specialist Midwife

Job overview

This is an exciting opportunity for a fixed term, part-time position to work alongside the current Bereavement Midwife to support and develop the bereavement service.  

Main duties of the job

The post holder will provide clinical leadership and have overall responsibility for the provision of care, support and practical advice to women and their families following the loss of their baby through late miscarriage/TOP, stillbirth, or neonatal death. 

Working closely alongside the current Bereavement Midwife, labour ward manager and core midwives, the post holder will act as an expert resource in pregnancy bereavement, be a positive role model and will provide sound professional knowledge and leadership to all members of the multidisciplinary team within the maternity service. A high standard of care will be maintained using up-to-date evidence based practice for this specific client group. The post holder will also provide statistical data for local and national reports.

Essential criteria
  • Current practising NMC registered midwife
  • Teaching and assessing qualification
  • Proven experience in all aspect of midwifery
  • Ability to demonstrate experience and understanding in bereavement care
  • Evidence of CPD relating to bereavement care
  • Awareness of current issues relevant to midwifery
Desirable criteria
  • Counselling qualification
  • Proven leadership and management skills
