Job overview

·       To act as a host and receptionist ensuring that patients, relatives and visitors receive a friendly and efficient service whilst maintaining confidentiality at all times.

·       To support the ward by performing various clerical and non-nursing duties to a high standard. All administration work for the ward will be completed by the post holder,

         To communicate effectively with a wide range of individuals across the Trust and actively contribute to a culture of positivity and fairness. 

Main duties of the job

                  Perform reception desk duties, dealing with patient enquiries, directing patients to waiting areas/beds and ensuring effective communication at all times.

                  Answering the telephone and taking messages.

                  Report to the ward manager items for repair and liaises with the works department by following agreed procedures

                  Arranging Day Case, Ward Attender and booked admissions work as agreed with the Ward Manager.

                  Monitor Ward activity.

                  Ordering ambulances and making out-patient appointments as and when required.

                  Liaise with other departments and disciplines.

                  Ensure reports and referral letters are escalated to the appropriate people/department within timescales.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • 5 GCSE’s or equivalent including English at Grade C or above.
  • Recent significant experience in an admin setting.
  • Evidence of continuing development.
Desirable criteria
  • Experience with NHS computer systems
  • NHS experience including communications with all multidisciplinary colleagues.
