Job overview

To carry a variable clinical caseload as part of the Pelvic Health team, providing advanced physiotherapeutic assessment, diagnosis, treatment and advice to patients who may have diverse and complex presentations. This includes in and out patient physiotherapy treatment in the fields of obstetrics, gynaecology, general surgery and breast surgery.

To supervise and support both the Band 4 physiotherapy assistant and physiotherapy students as required. 

To work  independently under the guidance of the team leader and actively participate in the professional development of self and others.

To contribute to other departmental activities.

To participate in provision of on call or other ‘out of hours’ services at weekends, evenings and Bank Holidays if required.

 

Main duties of the job

6.1 To provide physiotherapy services to obstetrics / gynaecology / general surgery / breast surgery both in-patients and out patients. This includes leading antenatal triage, gynaecology and breast post-operative interventions.

6.2  To work as an autonomous practitioner managing a defined clinical caseload which

        Includes obstetrics / gynaecology / breast surgery both in-patients and out patients, being professionally and legally responsible and accountable for all aspects of own work.

6.3 To provide specialist assessment and treatment for back and pelvic pain in pregnancy and postpartum, post-operative oncology breast surgery and urinary incontinence and pelvic floor dysfunction.

6.4 To regularly advise line managers about the needs of obstetrics / gynaecology / breast surgery patients and contribute as required to service planning and multi-disciplinary & interagency working.

6.5 To ensure safekeeping of confidential patient records, hospital equipment and own safety in line with Trust policies and procedures when out in the community.

6.6   Required to take physiotherapy and  work experience students

6.7 To deputise for senior staff as required.

Shortlisting Criteria

Essential criteria
  • HPCP registered
  • BSc (Hons) Physio or equivalent.
  • Completed broad range of rotations at band 5 / junior level i.e. 5 or 6 different specialties over 18 months
  • NHS experience
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of relevant post-graduate training/CPD
  • Previous Senior / Band 6 experience in relevant specialist area(s).
  • Prior involvement with audit, outcome measurement, objective or standard setting
