Research Midwife

NHS AfC: Band 6

Job overview

We have a unique opportunity for an experienced midwife to take on a Band 6 Research role within the Research & Innovation Team at HDFT. This is an exciting and fulfilling role which is offered initially as 12 months fixed-term.

The Research Midwife will play a key role in the delivery of The Generation Study, a high profile and important study which seeks to transform the quality of NHS genetic services for newborns. Sponsored by Genomics England, the study focuses on screening newborns for 200+ rare genetic conditions, using umbilical cord blood samples. Longer term, the study hopes to learn more about identification and treatment of genetic conditions over time. Potential participants are approached during pregnancy and counselled on the study.

The role will also involve the delivery of Born and Bred in Harrogate, a local offshoot of Born in Bradford, the large birth cohort study. The team hopes to expand the portfolio of studies under the Reproductive Health and Childbirth umbrella, so this is an exciting time to come on board.

If you are committed to contributing to a successful team, delivering excellence in research, and would like to develop your research experience, then this is the post for you. You will be joining an enthusiastic, friendly, and motivated team, working closely with midwives, obstetricians, research staff and other members of the multidisciplinary team.

Main duties of the job

The post-holder will be a key member of the small Reproductive Health & Childbirth research team at HDFT. Working with The Generation Study coordinators you will participate in the identification and consent of participants in line with the research protocol, while also adhering to good clinical practice (GCP) standards. You will be expected to deputise for the Study Coordinators when they are unavailable by representing the trust at meetings with the sponsor and relevant stakeholders. In addition to this you will support the team with sample collection and delivery, data collection and management and ordering project consumables. The role will also involve working on other studies such as BaBi, as well as identifying other research which may be relevant for the team to deliver.
