Tobacco Dependency Advisor

NHS AfC: Band 3

Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a permanent part-time (0.6WTE) Tobacco Dependency Advisor to join the Trust's Tobacco Dependency Treatment Service. Based within the Specialist Respiratory Nursing Team at Harrogate Hospital, you will be part of a team supporting adult inpatients who smoke and providing them with the best opportunity successfully to quit.

Main duties of the job

The post-holder will deliver treatment for tobacco dependency as part of the Trust's commitment to the NHS Long Term Plan for tobacco. This recognises tobacco dependency as a clinical condition, rather than a social or lifestyle choice, which can be treated with pharmacological and behavioural support as part of a patient's care pathway in hospital.

You will support all patients identified as smokers to remain smokefree during their admission through one-to-one bedside consultations and ensure ongoing support beyond discharge.

You will provide evidence-based behavioural support, specialist advice and recommendations on nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) and other stop smoking medications to patients, working closely with a wide range of healthcare professionals.

You will also record the outcomes of each patient intervention and initiate onward referrals to community stop smoking services using the Trust's electronic databases.
