Full Time Maternity Leave Cover

An exciting opportunity has arisen on the Same Day Emergency Care department to welcome a new Band 6 Nurse to the team.

The post holder will take on the leadership role within the rapid clinical assessment of acute medical patients. The post holder will help to plan, co-ordinate, implement and evaluate care and assist in the coordination of the patient's journey in order to minimize waits , delays and prevent avoidable admissions. 

The postholder will also rotate once a week into the Acute Referrals Team, where calls are received throughout Harrogate District catchment and patient care triaged appropriately. 

Management duties such as creating rosters, project management and staff education and support will be included in this post. 

 

Main duties of the job

 Ensure that  the patient has a high quality and safe experience during their journey as set out in the medical directorate core values of nursing care document. 

 Coordinates the shift on a day to day basis within unit including deployment and supervision of staff (including Bank and Agency staff) to ensure safe skill mix of staff. 

Development, implementation and evaluation of individual programmes of care.

 Provide support and supervision for junior staff and facilitating  positive staff welfare.

 Contribute professional leadership and advice to the ward nursing team.

 

Acts a positive role model to junior staff.

 Actively promote and ensure the patient safety first campaign is understood and applied in the unit.

Deals sensitively with the emotional needs of the patient, relative and staff. 

Participates with  Patient feedback and acts upon this in order to improve the                      

patients journey.

Effective contribution to  management of change.

 Support the Planning and organising duty rotas.

Professionally responsible to keep clinically up to date.

 Recognises and responds to education and training of junior staff.

Participates in professional education programmes for all nursing staff and acts as a mentor.  

Assists in the review of staff performance.

 Undertakes appraisal and personal development plans for junior staff.

 Support the effective management of sickness and absence. 

Supports senior colleagues with recruitment and retention of staff.

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Registered Nurse on NMC
  • A teaching qualification eg ENB 998.
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development
  • Experience working as Senior Staff Nurse – Band 5 in medical experience.
  • Clinical teaching experience.
  • Experience of telephone triage
Desirable criteria
  • A relevant post-basic course.
  • A Degree in Nursing or a related field.
  • Foundation Management / Leadership training
  • Involvement in Clinical Audit.
