Job overview
A great opportunity has arisen for a good and caring communicator with excellent interpersonal skills to lead our friendly dynamic reception team at YorSexual Health Harrogate - part of York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
The successful candidate will be the first point of contact for our service users and should be able to demonstrate an effective level of communication whilst acting with empathy in what can be an emotional or difficult situation. You will need to be self-motivated, and a good team player and you will also be first contact for staff on a day-to-day basis for the reception team.

Main duties of the job
Duties will include but not be limited to:
- Registering and booking patients using our stand alone computer system.
- Providing administration support to the multidisciplinary team.
- Providing administration support to the HIV clinicians
- Undertaking supervisory duties and line management for the Reception team, including Annual Leave, Rotas, E-Roster
- Liaising with clinical and admin teams to provide excellent service for all our Service Users
- Core hours will include shifts until 8pm on a rota basis
Experience of working in a healthcare setting and some reception knowledge would be desirable, though not essential. Supervisory or equivalent experience is desired. Full training will be given on our stand-alone IT system.

Person specification
Knowledge, training and experience
Essential criteria
- GCSE or equivalent in English or a good standard of written English
- Previous reception experience
- Computer literate
Desirable criteria
- Willing to undertake any necessary training
- Typing/word processing or experience of the same
Skills
Essential criteria
- Can communicate in a clear and understandable manner in person and on the telephone
- Can demonstrate a non-judgmental and flexible attitude towards patients and sexual health in general
- Ability to demonstrate self-motivation and enthusiasm and ability to use initiative when working alone
Desirable criteria
- Has experience of working with young people or people who may find it difficult to be clear about their needs
- Able to work evenings and occasionally cover for holidays/sickness
Aptitude and Personal Qualities
Essential criteria
- Understands the importance of maintaining confidentiality
- Ability to recognise when patients need immediate input from staff and direct appropriately
- Friendly and approachable manner with colleagues
- Able to work as a sole receptionist supported by the clinical team
Applicant requirements
The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
