Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Health Visiting Team in North Yorkshire as a Paid Peer Supporter.

The post holder will work as a member of the HDFT 0-19 team being responsible for supporting the delivery of the infant feeding offer via virtual infant feeding choices clinics and in-person breast feeding groups.

This will be based in Scarborough, providing in-person support for the breast feeding groups in Scarborough and Pickering areas of the East Locality

There will be a requirement to work in the whole of North Yorkshire, to provide cover and support the breast feeding groups North Yorkshire wide.

The post holder will provide a high standard of information and support to Children and their families in a range of settings in the community

To support parents, carers, children/young people and their families with low level issues around infant feeding, managing emotional health, or general areas of concern.

The post holder will provide a high standard of information and support to Children and their families in a range of settings. 

The post holder should be organised and flexible with good written and verbal communication skills. 

The post holder, following appropriate training will work with appropriate supervision and undertake a range of tasks including promoting and supporting breastfeeding and supporting emotional health.

Person specification

Requirements

Essential criteria
  • NVQ level 2
  • Experience of working with and supporting parents and families.
  • Experience of working in a community setting.
  • Able to make own travel arrangements for business usage.
  • Knowledge and/or experience of breastfeeding
Desirable criteria
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Good understanding of the issues of confidentiality, safeguarding children and domestic abuse.
