Job overview

We are seeking to recruit a highly experienced and motivated critical care practitioner, who as a shift leader can ensure the safe and effective management of the Critical Care area.

As an independent practitioner, you must be capable of providing highly skilled nursing care to a wide range of critically ill patients, as well as providing support, guidance, and clinical support to junior staff on duty.

As a Deputy Sister/Charge Nurse, in conjunction with the Band 7 Sister, you will be required to participate in the management of a team of nursing staff, identifying education and professional development requirements, and managing performance and sickness within defined parameters.

The successful candidate must have:

  • 1st level registration - a degree in a Health-related topic (or studying towards) is advantageous
  • Teaching certificate (or studying towards)
  • Critical Care qualification or equivalent experience.
  • A minimum of 3 years Critical Care nursing, along with experience of contributing to change in nursing practice.

You should be able to demonstrate good organisational skills, effective team working, and evidence of clinical and managerial leadership skills.

Main duties of the job

You will also participate as a Deputy Sister/Charge Nurse in the overall management of the department, by taking responsibility for specific projects within defined boundaries.

We expect staff to assist in promoting a positive working and learning environment, to aid the personal and professional development of self and other staff. You will be joining an established and dynamic multi-disciplinary team where clinical and nursing teams work well together.

  • Maintain a high standard of patient focused care in accordance with York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust policies and procedures.
  • Maintain a safe and clean working environment.
  • Provide assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of nursing care for patients, ensuring accurate written records are kept.
  • Communicate with patients and carers to ensure they have access to appropriate information.
  • Promote and maintain positive relationships between all staff involved in the care of the patient.
  • Act in accordance with the Nursing and Midwifery Council Code of Conduct.
  • Undertake duties on different wards/departments as and when required by service demands.
  • Demonstrate personal responsibility for compliance with infection control policies and procedures.

Experience
