We are looking to recruit a new Consultant Gastroenterologist and we want to welcome another consultant to join our friendly, dynamic and enthusiastic team of Gastroenterologists based at Scarborough Hospital.

Main duties of the job

The post is offered as 10 programmed activities (PAs) over five days and you will be part of the general medical on call rota. We are open to discuss any specific or specialised job plans that candidates may desire, including flexible/less than full time working. The department strives to achieve a collective work ethos to help to maintain long term sustainability to work-life balance. Whether you are interested in a sub-specialty commitment, teaching, research or quality improvement projects, we are excited to explore these opportunities with you.

 This is an excellent opportunity to join an innovative department which offers exciting opportunities in Endoscopy, ED interface, acute care.

Job Plans are open to discussion and negotiation. Candidates must have a higher medical qualification (MRCP or equivalent) and be on the GMC Specialist Register for G(I)M and Gastroenterology or be within twelve months of obtaining the CCT at the time of the interview. Your clinical skills and expertise will be of a high standard covering Gastroenterology. There is a voluntary limited option to cover General Internal Medicine. A familiarity with issues of service organisation and development would be particularly advantageous. This service is well supported by a sister Hepatology department, who manage routine and emergency Hepatology conditions.

Qualification

Essential criteria
  • MRCP or equivalent qualification
  • Full GMC registration with license to practice.
  • Medical Degree
  • Entry on the GMC Specialist Register via: CCT (proposed CCT date must be within 12 months of interview) or CESR
Desirable criteria
  • MD or equivalent higher degree or evidence of relevant research
  • Substantive NHS experience

Eligibility & Fitness to Pract

Essential criteria
  • Eligible to work in the UK

Teaching and Supervision

Essential criteria
  • Experience in teaching & supervising medical students and junior trainees
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of supervising SpRs/specialist trainees Higher teaching qualification

Research and Audit

Essential criteria
  • Experience of undertaking audits and presenting their findings
  • Able to critically review and apply research to clinical situations

Clinical practice/ competence

Essential criteria
  • Ability to demonstrate a high level of clinical experience in Gastroenterology +/- general medicine
