Job overview

We are looking for a highly motivated, dynamic practitioner with the appropriate clinical and scrub experience to lead our maternity theatre service as a Band 6 Deputy Team Leader within our new Maternity Theatre Team at Scarborough.

You will work alongside your Band 7 to support our dedicated team and continuously develop our service to provide excellent care for our patients.

The successful applicant will need to demonstrate a keen interest in improving and developing their leadership skills to enable management of staff, be an effective role model demonstrating high levels of clinical competence & expertise, have the ability to confidently coordinate the Multidisciplinary team and be able to confidently handle challenging situations.

You will have a minimum 3 years theatre experience in Maternity or minimum 3 years theatre experience in Urology, Gynae, GI and Vascular. You should be able to demonstrate involvement in service improvement with some evidence of change management. You will demonstrate skills in self-management including time management, prioritisation and organisational skills.

This is a demanding role where you will be expected to exhibit knowledge of how we work towards our Trust's vision and be a real team player.  Shifts  cover weekdays, weekends, bank holidays, days and nights.  You must be able to commit to a rotating shift pattern.

Main duties of the job

  • Leading the maternity theatre team in theatre.
  • Running the planned theatre lists as the Theatre Practitioner in Charge (TPIC)
  • Maintaining efficient communication with all the MDT members.
  • Coordinating the MDT in theatres during obstetric theatre emergencies.
  • Representing the maternity theatre team in the main theatre department as well as maternity.
  • Being a role figure for the theatre department and maternity.
  • Supporting junior staff.
  • Ensuring the theatre environment is compliant with Health and Safety as well as Infection Prevention standards.
  • Supporting the Team Leader with managerial duties.
  • Implementing and assessing improvement service changes within the maternity theatre services.
  • Being involved in the decision-making process of improvement initiatives for the maternity theatre service.
  • Having a sound knowledge of current situation within the maternity service and  participate in service improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered Nurse with current NMC registration or ODP with current HCP registration / Formal recognised nursing/ODP qualification
Desirable criteria
  • NVQ Assessor

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Minimum 3 years theatre experience in Maternity or minimum 3 years theatre experience in Urology, Gynae, GI and Vascular.
  • Evidence of continued educational and professional development.

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrate awareness of current theatre issues and developments.
  • Demonstrate awareness and understanding of NHS standards of Professional Practice
Desirable criteria
  • Demonstrates understanding of Health and Safety / COSHH
  • Awareness of managing resources, including budgets.
  • Understanding of change management, audit and research methods.

Skills and Attributes
