Main duties of the job
You will join a Trust which is proud to support an ambitious programme of service modernisation and has a reputation for providing high quality services. There is strong academic interest within the department encouraging both research and education.
The successful candidates will work within our Ophthalmic team having the opportunity to develop pathways whilst complementing an existing, well established and expanding eye care for York and the East Coast. The service is consultant led with direct consultant supervision.
The Scarborough Ophthalmology department is a standalone unit within the York & Scarborough NHS Trust offering ophthalmology services to patients within a catchment area comprising of a population of around 300.000. The unit has close links with the York Eye Department and additionally provides ophthalmic services in Malton and Bridlington.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The principle duty of this post is to provide a comprehensive clinical service to patients in Scarborough and the surrounding area
- To, at all times, comply with the GMC requirements of Duties of a Doctor
- To ensure that patient confidentiality is maintained at all times.
- To undertake duties as defined within the job description in so far as practicable and in agreement with your clinical director.
- To be responsible and managerially accountable for the reasonable and effective use of any Trust resources that you use and influence, and professionally accountable to the Medical Director.
- On commencement to ensure personal attendance at the Trust’s Corporate Induction.
- To participate in the Trust’s statutory and mandatory training programme
- To be responsible for the clinical management of in and out patients under your care.
- To comply with Trust policies and procedures where appropriate.
- To ensure that all intellectual property rights of the Trust are observed.
- Detailed working knowledge of safeguarding agenda, and its relevant legislation, policy and guidance is required.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Has achieved MBChB or equivalent medical qualification
- At least four years of postgraduate training, two of which are in a relevant specialty’
- Registered with the GMC and have a license to practise
- Completion of Basic Ophthalmic Training or equivalent
- BLS training or equivalent
Desirable criteria
- Experience of Foundation training
- 12 Months continuous experience within the NHS (preferably in ophthalmology)
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Ability to assess, recognise and initiate management of the acutely ill patient and play an effective part in advanced life support
Desirable criteria
- Knowledge of UK health systems, practices and values; awareness of current issues in the NHS
Applicant requirements
You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
