We are delighted to offer several opportunities for a Band 6 Speech and Language Therapist covering Scarborough, Whitby and Ryedale areas.

This role spans across diverse settings— educational settings, clinics, and homes —managing a range of clinical presentations in speech, language and communication. 

We're in search of an individual who demonstrates leadership traits and champions the needs of our patients. As a Specialist Paediatric Speech and Language Therapist, you'll manage a designated caseload with support from senior clinicians, providing supervision and training to colleagues. Your role here emphasises evidence-based practice, innovation, and collaboration across the multiple agencies and specialties required to support our children effectively.

Main duties of the job

Specialised Assessment and Management: Conduct specialised speech and language therapy assessments and manage a specific group of patients within a defined clinical specialty.

Treatment for Complex Conditions: Assess, treat, and provide specialist advice for patients with complex conditions.

Autonomous Practice: Work independently, handling a caseload of patients with complex physical, psychological, and cognitive needs

Support and Training: Offer support, specialised advice, and training to junior staff and students

Resource and Information: Act as a resource within the department and provide specialised information and advice regarding patients in the clinical group.

Documentation and Service Improvement: Maintain records, contribute to business-related information for service development and priorities, initiate evidence-based audits and projects for clinical practice improvement.

Flexibility and Collaboration: Work flexibly within the department, respond to service needs, and support colleagues dealing with the patient group.

The ability to transport yourself and equipment across the locality during the course of a normal working day is required for this vacancy. Access to a vehicle that can be used for business purposes and hold a full and valid driving licence (role will involve travel to numerous addresses that cannot be easily accessed by public transport means) is required.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • HCPC Registered Speech & Language Therapist
  • Evidence of relevant CPD activities
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of recognised post graduate training within specialist area
  • Practice placement supervisor qualification

Experience/ Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Experience in a relevant junior role, including the management of a range of specialist area conditions, with evidence of additional knowledge acquired through formal and informal clinical supervision
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of training/supporting others (including students) within specialist clinical area

Skills & Attributes

Essential criteria
  • Ability to organise and prioritise
  • Ability to work as an effective member of multidisciplinary team
  • Ability to present information, written and verbally in a clear and logical manner
Desirable criteria
  • Ability to use different communication methods and styles, relevant to speciality
