An exciting opportunity has arisen in theatre at Scarborough Teaching Hospital for a 12 month secondment, Band 6 Clinical educator within our Education and Development team. We are looking for a highly motivated, dynamic practitioner with the appropriate clinical and teaching experience to facilitate the education and development of the theatre/PACU teams.

 You will work as part of our theatre education team to contribute to devising, developing, delivering and evaluating plans of education, competency-based training programs and support activities relating to clinical practice education, training and development, and multi professional team working. You will support all nursing staff and operating department practitioners, registered and non-registered, working across the wider Theatre environment.

Our Theatre Education team collaborate across all hospital sites in our trust, we are looking for a Band 6 Clinical educator, based on the East coast (Scarborough and Bridlington) on a 12 month secondment.  There will be an element of cross site working required to meet the service needs.

Main duties of the job

  • To develop and deliver core and additional clinical skills and training programmes across all Theatre and PACU Care Group Surgery settings, demonstrating a sound teaching approach utilising mixed media, simulation, and creating a positive learning environment that supports the training needs of the service and organisation. 
  • The post holder will be required to plan and organise the training equipment and book training dates and venues as appropriate in collaboration with colleagues within the wider teams.

Qualifications & Training

Essential criteria
  • Registered Nurse with current NMC registration or ODP with current HCPC registration
  • Evidence of continued educational and professional development.
  • Willing to undergo training as necessary to undertake role
  • Practice Assessor or Mentor
Desirable criteria
  • Delivery of education and training within the clinical area
  • Clinical audit and standard setting

Experience & Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Minimum 3 years Clinical Theatre experience in Anaesthetics, Scrub or PACU
  • Exceptional interest in Education
  • Demonstrate awareness of current theatre issues and developments
  • Demonstrate awareness and understanding of current issues in Clinical Education
  • Evidence of clinical and managerial leadership
  • Demonstrates excellent use of good written, communication and listening skills across all settings.
