York Teaching Hospital Facilities Management (YTHFM) are looking for an approachable and flexible Electrical Technician to join our team in Scarborough. Relevant knowledge or experience on hospital systems is not essential as full training will be provided, but a willingness to learn and develop your skills is essential. 

Overtime/additional hours may also be available at times, for those who wish to do this.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate must be able to work co-cooperatively as part of a team, comprising of skilled and semi-skilled maintenance colleagues, and have demonstrable experience of working within a maintenance environment. 

The role is critical to the Estates Department's maintenance support service and is demanding and varied as it covers a range of engineering services. The role offers a significant opportunity to contribute to the smooth functioning and maintenance of a range of engineering services, in the Trust's clinical and non-clinical facilities.  It is a very busy directorate, and you will be part of a team that is constantly working to improve the quality and safety of the Trust's healthcare facilities.

In addition, the successful candidate should be reliable, resilient, enthusiastic, motivated and be able to work under pressure with the minimum of supervision.

Education, Qualifications and Training

Essential criteria
  • The post holder must have completed an accredited trade specific engineering apprenticeship (3-4 Years)
  • Current driving license should not amass 12 points within any 3 year period. For new drivers they should not amass 6 points within the first 2 years of passing their test. And have C1 driving licence
  • Inspection & Test (2391)*  LOLER*  Asbestos*  Confined spaces*  First Aid Training* *These training items are essential for the role and if not held on appointment must be obtained within the first 2 years of appointment.
Desirable criteria
  • Ventilation (CP)
  • Pressure Systems (SP)

Experience & Knowledge Required

Essential criteria
  • The post holder will have completed further development (normally 2 post years initial apprenticeship training) gathering specialist expertise in Electrical knowledge across a range of technical subjects in a commercial (not residential) setting
Desirable criteria
  • Specialist expertise in Health service knowledge across a range of technical subjects listed below, to enable them to carry out statutory required tasks in the areas.
  • Knowledge and experience of electrical infrastructure and emergency generator supply.
