Specialist in Paediatric Dentistry
We are looking for an enthusiastic, highly motivated and experienced person for the post of Specialist in Paediatric Dentistry. You will be working across the service, delivering care to paediatric patients including provision of treatment under sedation and general anaesthesia. You will provide clinical leadership in Paediatric Dentistry including the development of relevant protocols and the training and mentoring of staff.
The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate clinical leadership within an NHS setting. Candidates will have drive and enthusiasm for service development and improvement to include the teaching and supervision of staff.
The post-holder will work across North Yorkshire & York providing clinical care, peer support and supervision. In addition, there will be an expectation that the post-holder will also work closely with colleagues in the wider Community Dental Service.
Main duties of the job
- Provision of paediatric dentistry at level 2 and 3a within the Community Dental service, working at Community clinics and acute hospitals in York, Northallerton Hospital and Harrogate Hospital
- Delivery of dental care under conscious sedation and general anaesthesia
- Providing clinical leadership in Paediatric Dentistry
- Development of innovative new pathways to enhance access for patient groups who fall within the remit of Paediatric Dentistry
- Actively participating in the overall service management team at both departmental and Directorate level.
- Taking an active role in the development of Paediatric Dentistry at a regional level through involvement with the relevant Managed Clinical Network
- Teaching and training of dental officers and trainees, which will include Dental Core Trainees and Specialist Trainees
- Responsibility for ensuring active participation in continuing education.

Essential criteria
- BDS or equivalent
- Entry on the Specialist List for Paediatric Dentistry or within 6 months of completion
- NHS performer list number
Desirable criteria
- Post graduate qualification in Conscious Sedation
Experience
Essential criteria
- Experience of managing paediatric patients of high complexity
- Previous involvement ini planning and delivering paediatric dentistry under general anaesthesia
