Job overview

We’re looking for a friendly and proactive individual to become a key part of our team as a Receptionist/Administrator within the Neurology Department at York Teaching Hospital.

As the first point of contact for patients, families, and visitors, you’ll play a vital role in ensuring a warm and professional welcome to our service. You’ll provide essential administrative support to help our department run smoothly and efficiently.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Excellent communication skills with a kind, empathetic approach

  • A positive team player with a can-do attitude

  • Previous experience in a healthcare or reception setting would be desirable but is not essential

  • Confidence using computer systems and managing administrative tasks

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will provide a range of basic Clerical support, including:

  • Meeting with patients on reception, and helping with appointments and queries
  • Use the e-referral software to process new patient referrals in the required time frame
  • Monitor all the departmental email inboxes. 
  • Receive general enquiries, which could be as the first point of contact including, patients, visitors, staff and others.

Person specification

Qualification and knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Educated to GCSE Level or equivalent. Maths and English at C or above – or equivalent qualification/demonstrable experience.
  • Computer literacy skills to RSA2, NVQ 2 or equivalent
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of dealing with confidential information
  • Previous Administrative experience in an NHS environment
  • Administrative experience (1 year minimum)
  • Experience working in a Receptionist capacity
