Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a team manager to manage  services  in the medicine care group. This care group covers AHP services at York hospital, Scarborough hospital and Bridlington hospital as part of York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

This post will be managing York ED, General Medicine, Palliative and Admin Services based at the York hospital site.

This post is a fantastic opportunity to be involved in leading and innovative development of teams and services. You will have the unique prospect of working as part of a dynamic team. A strong support network is available on site and lots of exciting development opportunities.

Main duties of the job

Duties include staff management, recruitment, induction, appraisal, locality training and service development. You will also have responsibility for shift and workload allocation as well as rota planning. Support will be available from senior AHP managers and other team managers, as well as clinical advice from advanced clinical specialists in this area and professional leads.

A relevant degree or equivalent with current HCPC registration is essential. The successful candidate will have a broad range of post graduate experience, with at least some in a relevant clinical area and should include working at a senior level, and taking responsibility for other members of staff.

Ability to support others in skills development and complex discharge management is essential and understanding of complex care management within the NHS environment is also beneficial.

This vacancy will be considered for a secondment opportunity. Please note - if you would like your application to be considered for secondment, you must secure agreement from your line manager beforehand that you can be released to undertake the role.

Experience and knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of clinical, organisational and managerial knowledge- including ability to undertake more complex problem solving in these areas.
  • Experience of taking a lead role within a Team
  • Broad range of post graduate experience within relevant clinical settings. This should include working at a senior level with some responsibility for other team members.
  • Ability to support others in skills development eg clinical workload, complex discharge planning, time management, caseload management, prescription of specialist equipment.
  • Knowledge of workplace and clinical risk evaluation and management
  • Active contribution to audit.
Desirable criteria
  • Relevant MSc modules within relevant clinical field
  • Recognised post graduate training within specialist area.
  • Membership of appropriate clinical support or network group
  • Experience of working in a client-driven/NHS environment.

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Ability to present written information in a logical, concise and professional manner
  • Effective communication is required with a variety of groups and individuals both internal and external to the organisation. Information to be communicated is usually sensitive, complex and occasionally contentious in nature and should be delivered in a manner appropriate and sensitive to the recipient’s needs, significant negotiating skills will be required.

Qualifications and Training

Essential criteria
  • Diploma/Degree in relevant profession Health Profession Council Registration
  • Evidence of relevant CPD which may include a range of specialist clinical courses and/or working alongside specialist clinicians within relevant specialty.
  • Evidence of CPD or training relating to Leadership or Service Development role.
  • Practice placement qualification or training.
  • Willingness to undertake appropriate agreed training in management/clinical skills as required.
Desirable criteria
  • Experience as a Team Leader within relevant setting.
  • Advanced knowledge of a broad range of conditions.
  • Experience of supporting others undertaking out –of hours duties.
  • Presentation and Teaching skills within large group or classroom situation.
  • Experience in contribution to Specialist/national/regional network groups.
  • Experience of contribution to specialist training within university environment
