Job overview

At York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, patient care is at the centre of all that we do.

An exciting secondment opportunity has arisen within Older Peoples services at York Hospital. We are looking to recruit an experienced nurse into the Band 6 Deputy Sister/Charge Nurse role on Ward 37 for 12 months. The successful candidate will have at least 18 months post registration experience. Ward 37 has 21 beds and provides quality holistic care for older adults with a diagnosis of dementia or delirium. 

We are seeking applications from highly motivated, dynamic and enthusiastic individuals who have excellent communication skills and are ready to broaden their knowledge and leadership skills. This post will give an opportunity for further professional development, and to embrace the challenge of working in a fast paced and diverse environment. We are looking for someone who is capable of lateral thinking and will work in an innovative manner with the resources available.

Main duties of the job

The post will support the band 7 to lead and to further enhance the team of senior nurses. Focusing on patient experience, patient safety and providing assurance that standards are met for every patient, every time. The role will involve providing expert, person - centred care for patients living with a dementia and/or delirium.  Advocating for patients rights and dignity and supporting patients and families with emotional and psychological needs. 

The candidate must be ready for a new challenge, have sound clinical knowledge and skills and be ready to take on the leadership role.  We are a positive, friendly and supportive team and will welcome you and assist in your development within the role.

If you are enthusiastic about patient centred care, have excellent communication skills and are passionate about motivating and inspiring others you may well be the perfect candidate to assist us in leading our team.
